Maybe you can you spot this mistake yourself?
Look close at the vent…
I’m talking about that tiny section of vent in red…
Notice it’s horizontal…
Believe it or not, that small section of pipe is the ENTIRE reason this toilet fails inspection…
Some folks may be wondering,
“How in the heck does a horizontal vent cause problems?”
Here’s the hidden danger with horizontal dry vents:
Drain backups naturally work their way into portions of a vent. After that backup is cleared, most of the waste goes right down the drain…
However, some waste can get left behind in the horizontal section of the vent…Overtime it builds up and eventually blocks the vent.
Remember, a blocked vent is the same thing as no vent.
That’s why code doesn’t allow horizontal dry vents under a fixture’s flood level rim (FLR)…
What’s the Solution?
Keep dry vents vertical under the FLR.
Once it’s 6-inches (or more) above the FLR, you can turn it horizontal (if need be).
Mistakes like this don’t have to happen…
You just need to see examples of what to do…
Then those silly mistakes (like this one) can easily be prevented…
